Welcome to Kat House Art. I’m Kat Yates, an Australian artist with a fascination for birds, cats, strange characters and the slightly ridiculous side of everyday life.

My work begins by hand — painted, drawn and allowed to develop a personality of its own. The birds get names, the cats get jobs, and before long they all seem to have opinions about everything.

Travel is an important part of my creative life. From my studio in Australia to the streets, galleries and workshops of Bali and Yogyakarta, I’m constantly discovering new ideas, textures, colours and traditional processes that find their way back into what I make.

Kat House Art brings original artwork into everyday life. Paintings and drawings become limited-edition wearable art, cards and objects — while still retaining the character and imperfections of the original.

I’m not interested in fast fashion or making things that look like everything else. I want each piece to be a little imperfect, a little unexpected and unmistakably individual.

Kat House Art is for people who collect art rather than follow trends — and who enjoy being a little different.
