Kat Yates is a contemporary Australian artist based in Toowoomba, Queensland. Her work centres on expressive, character-driven portraiture that explores emotion, identity and the complexity of human experience.

Working intuitively, Kat builds layered compositions using bold line, colour and texture. Her figures sit between abstraction and representation, allowing personality and mood to emerge through distortion, exaggeration and unexpected detail. Kat holds a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Honours) from the University of Southern Queensland (USQ), Toowoomba. This formal training has supported the development of her distinctive style, combining conceptual understanding with an intuitive, expressive approach to making.
